ADOPT-A-CELL:   the Christian answer to the ‘three strikes’ policy.  As Christians who are familiar with Jesus’ words, “I was in prison and you visited me” (Matt 25), we have three strikes of our own with which to combat the ever-increasing numbers of people being imprisoned in our country: 1) adopt a specific prison cell; 2) believe; 3) pray. Join the campaign to reform the imprisoned through the power of Jesus. CARITAS LENT APPEAL:  addressing poverty the world over.  Caritas Aotearoa NZ thanks the generosity of New Zealanders who have contributed over $500,000 to a global Caritas effort to help survivors of the Haiti earthquake of 12 January.  Lent is also the time when we remember those members of our global family whose needs are not currently in the headlines.  Haiti is a reminder of the need to address poverty and injustice wherever it is found, so that action now may prevent or minimise disaster later.  The Lent Appeal helps Caritas fund projects  and programmes which may not attract the attention of the world’s media, but where the need may be equally great.  Please continue to give generously to our Lent Appeal, and/or use our prayer and reflection resources to support us in other ways.  From Haiti itself, Daniel Tillias of Pax Christi Port-au-Prince has written:  “One way to honour the victims of this earthquake is to end all that causes similar suffering by other people in the world.  To end war, reduce hunger and reduce pollution is the best tribute the world can give to the Haitian people”.  Caritas thanks you for your support—in prayer, practical support and financial donations.  A Lenten pack is available—it includes an envelope for each week in Lent.  This year Caritas has issued an envelope for One Total Lent Donation for anyone who prefers to make one donation.  The administration staff at Caritas will process and receipt the donation at the time it is received.
