CARITAS LENT APPEAL:  Thank you to all parishes that have responded generously to the initial stages of the Lent Appeal 2010. Week three of the Lent Appeal has just been completed and our total at this stage is $199,000 - an 8% increase on the equivalent week three total in 2009, an incredible result.
Thank you also to parishes who generously supported the Haiti Appeal, our total is now over $600,000. Your donations have enabled Caritas in Haiti to provide emergency relief to over 600,000 people.
Your commitment to the Lent Appeal helps Caritas support over 40 development programmes and projects in the Pacific, Asia, Latin America and Africa. Work which is vital in responding to the ongoing humanitarian disaster that is poverty. Lesley-anne Knight, Secretary General of Caritas Internationalis, in her September 2009 visit to New Zealand explained, “Around 230,000 people die every five days as a result of poverty...equivalent to losing more than four times the population of New Zealand each year.”
The Caritas Lent Appeal makes a difference in the lives of many; please give generously to help others help themselves.

FUNDING GRANTS:  The Diocese of Palmerston North, in conjunction with the Catholic Charities Foundation of Palmerston North, the Tindall Foundation and Catholic Social Services, seek applications for funding for qualifying grants to organisations within the Diocese.  Application forms and criteria for funding are available from the Parish Office.  Applications must reach the Diocesan Office by 31 March 2010.
