The last half year has been a busy time for St Pius X staff and children. The administration and staffroom areas have been increased and modernised. The Ministry of Education has given us another teacher for 2008 and due to the lack of teaching spaces we are at present moving a wall in the library to make a separate computer suite and an extra classroom. A big thank you to the St Philomena’s parish for allowing us to use their meeting room for our library. Without their help we would not have an extra teaching space for 2008. Early in the new year when all our alterations are complete we will open our new buildings and have them blessed. This extra teacher will ensure that all classes will have under 25 children and this is a great opportunity for all the children to get more one to one instruction. This year we have purchased digital cameras for all the classrooms and so our IT hardware is continually expanding. The new DRS introduced personal invitations to all families for the first Sunday of the month and these have had an extremely positive response sometimes up to 46%. The class masses have been well attended but the highlight of the year was the Grandparents day. This will become an annual event. Trish Corboy our DRS has had a successful application for study leave to finish her degree in 2008. We have appointed a Long Term Reliever to take her position. This year we welcomed Mary Jones to our school as secretary. The traditional Mission Shop Day raised $613.00 and was thoroughly enjoyed by all the children. Our hangi was the culmination of 10 weeks study of “What it is to be a Maori”. Mission Shop Day this year was A HUGE success as we raised $732:00 .This continues to be a real tradition of the school. Mini ball continues to be the most popular sport played at St Pius X school and our basketball team played in the semi final in their league. Our production this year is on Thursday December 13 at 7:00 and it is a Christmas story “A Lamb’s Tale”. You are welcome to come to our dress rehearsal on Wednesday 12 December at 1:30
